Country Roads

Somnolent Summer scenes on any Southern road are drenched in color and haze, providing a sense of fantasy and blessing...how could any place be so naturally rich?  How could I have been so blessed to be born and to live my life in such a God given painting?

I remember a trip from Virginia back down to my home in East Texas in the summer of perhaps 1972. We took a little more time than usual, and detoured through Georgia and Alabama. The Alabama landscape was shrouded in wild vines, thick with mist. Unknowable mystery. I took many photographs, trying to capture the sense of what I saw in the mist - something nostalgic? unknown? I could not manage to record the feeling on film, but it is still there in my mind, evocative and fragrant.
